Online Betting in India
Online sports betting has become hugely popular over the last decade. Today, it’s easy to find sports betting websites for nearly every sport in the world. The best online betting sites offer a wide variety of sports, flexible banking options, bonuses, and even some casino gambling.
Best Online Sports Betting Sites in India
Online sports betting is not all created equal. Even though there are so many sites out there today, not all of them accept all players. It depends on the region and country you are located in. Be sure to use a reputable site that accepts players from your location.
On this page, we’ve put together a complete guide to online sports betting in India. The online sportsbooks we recommend here accept Indian players and have strong reputations. Our team has verified the safety and security of each site by placing wagers with their own cash.
How to Place Online Sport Bets
It’s easy to get started with online sports betting. The first thing to do is to find a reputable online sportsbook that accepts players from your location. For players in India, we have a list of the best Indian online sportsbooks here on this page.
Once you find a top sports betting site, you need to make an account and setup a payment method to add funds. Once that’s done, you can start researching and placing your bets.
Regardless of the sport, an online sportsbook will offer odds for all the events you can place bets on. The odds depend on who is playing and who is the favorite to win.
You can place futures bets on upcoming contests or you can place bets on events the same day that they will happen – just be aware that this will influence the odds. You can even sometimes place bets on an event as it’s happening.
Be careful when placing sports bets online – if you lose, you’ll lose all your wagered cash. Online sportsbooks will also take a small commission from all of your bets. This varies depending on the bet and the sportsbook.
Types of Sports Bets
One of the most common sports bets is the spread, in reference to the point spread of the game. These bets almost always have a favorite and an underdog.
Let’s say that for example, a game is being played between India and Japan. India is the favorite to win and Japan is the underdog – the spread is 3 points. It will be written like this: Japan (+3) India (-3).
If you bet on India, you will win if India wins the game by 4 or more points. If you bet on Japan, you will win if Japan wins the game or loses by just 1 or 2 points. If you bet on Japan, you’ll also win the bet if the game ends in a tie. If India wins by exactly 3 points you won’t win or lose.
The moneyline bet is another popular bet that is much simpler. With the moneyline, you are only picking which team you think will win the contest – scores and points don’t matter for this bet.
For a moneyline bet, plus and minus symbols are used to show which teams are favored and how much you’ll win for a bet of $100. Using the previous example, let’s say a game is being played between India and Japan and India is the favorite.
The odds for India will be written as: India (-200). When you see a favored team with a negative number, that means you need to bet that amount in order to win $100 – so in this example, you need to bet $200 to win $100.
The odds for Japan will be written as: Japan (+180). When you see an underdog team with a positive number, that means that is the amount you’ll win for a bet of $100. So in this case, a $100 bet on Japan will award you with $180 if Japan wins the game.
The over/under bet is also known as the totals bet. For this bet, you don’t pick a specific team – instead, you are betting on whether the final combined score of the game (from both teams) will be over or under a certain number.
Going with our example, let’s say a football game is being played between India and Japan. The sportsbook will set the over/under – in this case, let’s say it’s been set at 4.
If you bet the under, that means you are betting that the total combined final score from both teams will be less than 4. If you bet the over, that means you are betting that the total combined final score from both teams will be greater than 4.
